Tipi sits on the Kameng river 10 km up-country from Bhalukpong in West Kameng district — the site of the state's Orchid Research Centre, a hillside garden of rare orchids under mist-netting and glass, strung along the highway where the river bends into the foothills.
History & culture
Established decades ago as the provincial orchid research station, Tipi grew into one of Asia's largest living orchid collections — the centre holds hundreds of species gathered from across the eastern Himalaya, including many found nowhere else in India; it remains the quiet botanical heart of the gateway stretch.
