Susunia Hills rise abruptly from the Rarh uplands of Bankura district, West Bengal, 44 km north-west of Bankura town — a quartzite rock massif whose bare stone face glows against the sal forest, with seasonal streams cutting the lower slopes and a spring at its foot.

History & culture

The hill's edge carries archaeological and colonial marks — an old rock inscription attributed to the 5th-century Vakataka-era rulers sits on the rock face, and the British-era visitors carved their initials beside it; the forest at the base is protected, and the hill is a pilgrimage and trek destination of the local country, with the riverbed's fossil-bearing rocks drawing amateur geologists.
