Geography & terrain

Someshwara WLS lies in the Udupi district of Karnataka at about 100–300 m, 40 km from Udupi and 20 km from Hebri — the rainforest sanctuary of the region, its king cobras, the waterfalls and the trails set on the Sahyadri's west edge.

History & culture

The sanctuary's story runs with the 1974 notification era — the rainforest sanctuary of the 1974-era notification and the 1970s-era wildlife of the Udupi forest service, with the sanctuary's modern role as the nature stop of the Mangaluru circuit and the home of the 1974-era sanctuary and the king cobras and the 2000s-era treks; the sanctuary's history of the 2010s-era sightings and the waterfalls circuit, gives Someshwara its rainforest character.
