Similipal NP lies in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha at about 400 m, 320 km from Bhubaneswar and 100 km from Baripada — the tiger biosphere of the region, its 2,750-sq-km forest, the waterfalls and the tribal core set on the Eastern Ghats' north edge.

History & culture

The park's story runs with the 1980 notification era — the tiger biosphere of the 2,750-sq-km forest and the 1980-era notification of the Odisha forest service, with the park's modern role as the wildlife stop of the Mayurbhanj circuit and the home of the 1980s-era wildlife and the tigers and the 2000s-era nature trails; the park's history of the 1994 tiger-reserve life and the 2009 biosphere status, gives Similipal its biosphere character.
