Silent Valley NP lies in the Palakkad district of Kerala at about 900 m, 120 km from Kozhikode and 40 km from Attappady — the rainforest park of the region, its 89-sq-km forest, the lion-tailed macaques and the trek lines set on the Nilgiri ranges' south edge.

History & culture

The park's story runs with the 1984 sanctuary era — the rainforest park of the 89-sq-km forest and the 1984-era sanctuary of the Kerala forest service, with the park's modern role as the conservation stop of the Palakkad circuit and the home of the 1984-era sanctuary and the lion-tailed macaques and the 2000s-era trek trails; the park's history of the 1980s Save Silent Valley movement and the 2019-era buffer life, gives Silent Valley its rainforest character.
