Geography & terrain

Sela Pass crosses the Sela range at 4,170 m on the Bomdila–Tawang highway — the mountain gate of the Tawang road, a windswept saddle of prayer flags and frozen tarns above the tree line, with the two Sela lakes glowing turquoise below the crest.

History & culture

The pass has carried the pilgrim and army road to Tawang since the route's construction in the 1960s, and its northern side witnessed the 1962 war's stand at Jaswantgarh; the frontier deity 'Sela' is said to bless the crossing, and the memorials along the descent keep the pass's military story close.
