Sabarimala lies in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala at about 1,260 m, 100 km from Kottayam and 180 km from Kochi — the pilgrimage hill of the region, its Ayyappa temple, the 18-km trek and the festival set on the Periyar tiger reserve's edge.
