Ratapani WLS lies in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, 50 km from Bhopal and 80 km from Hoshangabad — the tiger reserve of the region, its 1976 park, the safaris and the forest set on the Vindhya's hills.

History & culture

The sanctuary's story runs with the 1976 wildlife era — the tiger reserve of the 1976 founding and the 2021 reserve status of the tiger plan, with the sanctuary's modern role as the wildlife stop of the Bhopal circuit and the home of the jeep safaris and the Kolar dam edge and the sambar grounds; the sanctuary's history of the 2019 tiger count and the Bori river and the 1976-era protection, gives Ratapani its tiger character.
