The town's story runs with the 1975 Sholay era — the granite town of the Closepet hills and the Sholay rocks of the 1975 film, with the town's modern role as the climb stop of the Bengaluru circuit and the home of the 500+ boulder problems and the 1975-era film site and the Janapada Loka craft village; the town's history of the 2015 climbing meet and the 100-metre rock faces, gives Ramanagara its bouldering character.
