Pelling lies in the West Sikkim district of Sikkim at about 2,150 m, 130 km from Gangtok and 30 km from Gyalshing — the mountain town of the region, its Kanchenjunga views, the monasteries and the waterfalls set on the Singalila ridge.

The town's story runs with the 18th-century monastery era — the town below the Pemayangtse monastery and the pilgrimage of the 1705-founded seat, with the town's modern role as the mountain stop of the Sikkim circuit and the home of the Kanchenjunga viewpoints and the 4-hour Rabdentse ruins trek; the town's history of the Singshore bridge and the Khecheopalri lake and the 1990s hotel era, gives Pelling its mountain character.
