Geography & terrain

Parasnath lies in the Giridih district of Jharkhand at about 1,380 m, 60 km from Giridih and 250 km from Ranchi — the Jain hill of the region, its Shikharji temples, the trek and the views set on the Parasnath peak.

History & culture

The hill's story runs with the Jain nirvana tradition — the Shikharji of the Jainism (the place of the 20 of the 24 Tirthankaras' nirvana) and the 23rd Parshvanatha's legend, with the hill's modern role as the pilgrimage of the Jharkhand circuit and the home of the 20 temple complexes and the 900-year old shrine; the hill's history of the 1988-era stairs and the hill's sacred trek, gives Parasnath its Shikharji character.
