Panimur Falls lie far south in Dima Hasao district, where the Barak river leaves the hills near the Assam–Manipur–Meghalaya corner — a broad two-tiered cascade on the Barak's white water, set in the district's remotest forest country, 300 km from Guwahati and about 150 km from Haflong's hill roads.

History & culture

The falls served as the border-country landmark of the Tiwa and Hmar regions — a route-way of the district's old river life — and the river-country's rock inscriptions and the Silchar-side legends keep the site in the district's stories; its remoteness preserved the place from everything but the river.
