Pangong Tso lies in the Leh district of Ladakh at about 4,350 m, 160 km from Leh and 5 km from the border — the border lake of the region, its blue water, the camps and the high road set on the Chang La's descent.
History & culture
The lake's story runs with the 1959 border closure — the lake of the Chinese border's eastern third and the 1959 flight's restricted shore, with the lake's modern role as the film and the camping stop of the Ladakh circuit and the home of the 134 km lake and the 2002 film's fame; the lake's history of the 2004 permit rules and the 2018 camping season and the blue-water legend, gives Pangong its border-lake character.
