Geography & terrain
Palolem is a 1.5 km crescent of sand at the south end of Goa's coast, tucked between the forested hills of the Western Ghats' western edge and the Arabian Sea. It sits at the mouth of a small river, with Canacona town 2 km inland.
History & culture
A fishing-village beach that became South Goa's backpacker anchor in the 1990s — the laterite headland's German bakery ruins and the Portuguese-era chapel in the village are the quiet history among the shacks.
