History & culture
The fort's story runs with the 16th-century Chero rule — the fort of the Chero dynasty and the twin forts of the New and the Old Palamu, with the fort's modern role as the heritage stop of the Jharkhand circuit and the home of the 16th-century palace and the 44-acre old fort; the fort's history of the 1664 Mughal siege and the 1772 British capture and the Betla forest, gives the fort its Chero character.
