The lake's story runs with the 1213 Kakatiya building — the reservoir built by the Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva and the 1213 irrigation of the region, with the lake's modern role as the wildlife stop of the Warangal circuit and the home of the Pakhal sanctuary's deer and the panthers; the lake's history of the 1952 sanctuary and the boating's regatta and the forest's birdlife, gives the lake its forest-lake character.
