Nubra Valley lies in the Leh district of Ladakh at about 3,050 m, 150 km from Leh and 40 km from the Siachen base — the dune valley of the region, its sand dunes, the camels and the monasteries set on the Shyok and the Nubra rivers' meeting.
History & culture
The valley's story runs with the trade-route era — the valley of the silk-route caravans and the double-humped camels of the Bactrian trade, with the valley's modern role as the stop of the Ladakh circuit and the home of the 17th-century Diskit monastery and the Khardung La crossing; the valley's history of the Siachen operations and the Panamik hot springs and the Nubra's cold-desert life, gives the valley its dune character.
