Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, 40 km from Trivandrum and 30 km from the Kovalam coast — the dam sanctuary of the region, its Neyyar dam, the boating and the lion safari set on the Ghats' southern edge.

History & culture

The sanctuary's story runs with the 1958 forest protection — the Neyyar of the 128 sq km of the Neyyar river's forests and the wildlife rehabilitation of the 1985 crocodile bank, with the sanctuary's modern role as the wildlife stop of the Trivandrum circuit and the home of the lion safari park and the Agasthyamala biosphere edge; the sanctuary's history of the 1970s deer park and the 1985 crocodile and the elephant rehabilitation, gives the sanctuary its dam-forest character.
