Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) floats 36 km south-west of Swaraj Dweep across the turquoise channel — a flat 13-sq-km island of farmland and forest ringed by coral reefs, with the jetty village in the middle, Bharatpur beach on the north and the Laxmanpur sands on the south-west.

History & culture

A British-era agricultural settlement (its paddy farms fed Port Blair), Neil stayed a quiet ferry stop until the 2000s; the island's slow cycle-rickshaw pace and renamed Shaheed Dweep identity have made it the Andamans' laid-back island — small, walkable and famously mellow.
