The National Museum lies in the Central Delhi district of Delhi, 1 km from the India Gate and 5 km from Connaught Place — the museum of the region, its galleries, the artefacts and the heritage set on Janpath's cultural mile.

History & culture

The museum's story runs with the 1949 founding — the museum born of the exhibition of the 1947-48 and its galleries of the 5,000 years, with the museum's modern role as the cultural stop of the Delhi circuit and the home of the Harappan seals and the 2nd-century Didarganj Yakshi; the museum's history of the Mauryan galleries and the 2005 blockbuster exhibitions, gives the museum its national-heritage character.
