Geography & terrain

Narkanda lies in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh at about 2,708 m, 65 km from Shimla and 120 km from Chandigarh — the ski town of the region, its Hatu peak, the orchards and the views set on the Satluj's high ridge.

History & culture

The town's story runs with the colonial-era summer station — the apple and the cherry orchards of the 19th-century British era and the 1868 mahasu house, with the town's modern role as the ski stop of the Shimla circuit and the home of the Hatu Peak (3,407 m) and the Mahasu temple; the town's history of the apple trade and the 1904-era rest houses, gives Narkanda its ski-town character.
