History & culture
The town's story runs with the 1559 Portuguese settlement — the Nani Daman of the St. Francis of Assisi church and the 1560 fort of the sea trade, with the town's modern role as the heritage stop of the Daman circuit and the home of the Daman Ganga river and the Church of Our Lady of Rosary; the town's history of the Portuguese rule and the 1961 liberation and the fishing life, gives Nani Daman its Portuguese character.
