Namchi lies in the South Sikkim district of Sikkim at about 1,675 m, 90 km from Gangtok and 60 km from Darjeeling — the statue town of the region, its 118-feet Chenrezig statue, the monasteries and the views set on the Tendong hill.

History & culture

The town's story runs with the 1990s statue building — the town of the 118-feet Chenrezig and the 2004 Guru Rinpoche statue of the Samdruptse hill, with the town's modern role as the pilgrimage of the Sikkim circuit and the home of the Tendong hill and the Ngadak monastery; the town's history of the Lepcha legends of the Tendong Lho Rum Faat and the Buddhist life, gives Namchi its statue-town character.
