Geography & terrain

Nagarhole National Park lies in the Kodagu and the Mysuru districts of Karnataka, 90 km from Mysore and 240 km from Bangalore — the tiger park of the region, its Kabini river, the jeep safaris and the forests set on the Western Ghats' edge.

History & culture

The park's story runs with the 1955 game sanctuary — the Nagarhole of the princely-era hunting ground and the 1988 national park of the tiger reserve, with the park's modern role as the safari stop of the Karnataka circuit and the home of the Kabini's wildlife (the elephants, the tigers and the leopards); the park's history of the Kuruba villages and the 1974 Project Tiger and the 1999 tiger reserve, gives the park its river-forest character.
