History & culture
The reservoir was created by the Kangsabati Dam, completed in the 1950s as one of West Bengal's greatest irrigation projects; the drowned river valley turned into a scenic lake, with the Parashnath temple and the Ambikanagar hill-forest giving the lake its sacred fringe, and the boathouse and island walks developing as the state's inland-water getaway.
