Mukteshwar lies in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand at about 2,300 m, 45 km from Nainital and 340 km from Delhi — the orchard town of the region, its views, the temple and the peace set on the Kumaon ridge.

History & culture

The town's story runs with the 1893 veterinary research — the town of the IVRI (the Indian Veterinary Research Institute) and the Chauli-ki-Jali of the hanging rock, with the town's modern role as the weekend stop of the Nainital circuit and the home of the 18th-century Mukteshwar Mahadev temple; the town's history of the colonial research station and the apple and the pear orchards, gives Mukteshwar its orchard-town character.
