History & culture

The fort's story runs with the 1814–1815 Maratha building — the victory tower built by the Serfoji II to mark the British war's win (the ninth storey of the later restoration), with the fort's modern role as the heritage stop of the Thanjavur coast and the home of the cannon and the beach; the fort's history of the Maratha state and the coast's watch, gives Manora its watchtower character.
