Geography & terrain

Mainpat lies in the Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh at about 1,150 m, 120 km from Ambikapur and 300 km from Raipur — the Tibetan hill station of the region, its refugee villages, the waterfalls and the valleys set on the plateau's edge.

History & culture

The plateau's story runs with the Tibetan settlement — the land given to the Tibetan refugees of the 1960s and the home of the monastery and the stupa of the community, with the plateau's modern role as the little-Tibet hill station of the state and the home of the gompas; the plateau's history of the river valleys and the fish farms, gives Mainpat its Tibetan-hill character.
