Landour lies in the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand at about 2,100 m, 4 km from Mussoorie and 300 km from Delhi — the slow-travel ridge town of the region, its cafes, the colonial lanes and the pine woods set on the ridge above Mussoorie.

History & culture

The town's story runs with the colonial-era cantonment — the military station of the British India (the Landour cantonment of 1827), with the town's modern role as the writer's and the cafe stop of the Mussoorie circuit and the home of the old booksellers; the town's history of the churches and the bungalows and the winter's snow, gives Landour its slow-town character.
