Geography & terrain

Lachung lies in the Mangan district of Sikkim at about 2,750 m, 130 km from Gangtok and 30 km from Chungthang — the gateway village of the region, its monastery, the river and the alpine doors set on the north Sikkim's Bhaleedhunga valley.

History & culture

The village's story runs with the north-Sikkim border life — the village of the Lachungpa community and the old trade routes of the Tibet, with the village's modern role as the overnight base of the Yumthang and the Zero Point circuits and the home of the 1848 monastery; the village's history of the yak herding and the apple orchards, gives Lachung its gateway-village character.
