Kohima lies in the Kohima district of Nagaland at about 1,500 m, 150 km from Dimapur and 340 km from Guwahati — the hill capital of the state, its war cemetery, the Kohima village and the culture set on the ridges along the old highway.

History & culture

The town's story runs with the 1944 Kohima battle of the Second World War — the decisive fight of the Japanese advance (the Kohima epigraph of the words of remembrance), with the town's war cemetery of the Commonwealth graves and the state's capital role since 1963; the town's history of the Angami ridges and the Hornbill-festival culture, gives Kohima its hill-capital character.
