Geography & terrain

Kishtwar NP lies in the Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir, 40 km from Kishtwar town and 200 km from Jammu — the high-altitude national park of the region, its ibex, the alpine meadows and the trekking set on the Great Himalaya's slopes.

History & culture

The park's story runs with the region's mountain conservation — the wildlife sanctuary of 1972 and the national park of 1981, with the park's history as the hunting grounds of the old principality and its modern role as the protected home of the Himalayan ibex, the musk deer and the snow leopard; the park's story of the alpine lakes and the high passes, gives Kishtwar NP its mountain-park character.
