Kibber lies in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh at about 4,270 m, 18 km from Kaza and 220 km from Shimla — the high village of the Spiti valley, its snow leopard country, the monastery and the stone lanes set on the cold desert's edge above the river.
