Keibul Lamjao NP lies in the Bishnupur district of Manipur, 45 km from Imphal — the floating national park of the Loktak, its phumdi islands, the sangai deer and the lake waters set on the great lake's south.

History & culture

The park's story runs with the sangai deer's rescue — the 1977 national park of the world's only floating park, with the park's role in the brow-antlered deer's recovery from near-extinction (the 14 animals of the 1975 to the hundreds of today); the park's role in the region's wetland life, with the Loktak's phumdi (the floating vegetation mats) and the sendra islands, gives Keibul Lamjao its floating-wildlife character.
