Geography & terrain
Kasol sits at about 1,580 m (5,190 ft) on the banks of the Parvati river in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, between Bhuntar and Manikaran in the Parvati valley. It is 31 km from Bhuntar airport (Kullu–Manali), about 75 km from Manali, and roughly 510 km / 12–14 hours by road from Delhi via Chandigarh, Mandi and Bhuntar. The nearest railhead is Joginder Nagar, about 145 km away. The village is the valley's main base, with its cafes, camps and treks spread along the river's banks.
History & culture
Kasol's story runs with the Parvati valley's trekking life: a hamlet of shepherds and forest routes that grew into the riverside backpacker stop of the 1990s. Israeli travellers discovered the valley early and shaped its cafe culture, earning Kasol the nickname of India's mini Israel. Today the village is the base for the Kheerganga, Tosh, Rasol, Malana and Sar Pass treks, with Israeli-style eateries, festival nights and a growing workation scene giving it a distinct riverside-trek character.
