Humayun's Tomb lies in the Nizamuddin area of Delhi, 4 km from the city centre — the UNESCO garden tomb of the Mughal emperor, its charbagh gardens and the red sandstone structure set on the Yamuna's old floodplain in the capital's south.

History & culture

The tomb was built in the 1570s by the emperor's widow Bega Begum — the first great garden tomb of the Mughals, with the Persian architect Mir Sayyid Ali and his design that inspired the Taj Mahal; the tomb's history of the Mughal dynasty's burials and the later restoration by the Aga Khan Trust, gives Humayun's Tomb its place as the Delhi's great Mughal monument.
