Geography & terrain

Gorumara National Park lies in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, 20 km from Chalsa and 70 km from Siliguri — the Dooars park of the rhinoceros, its grasslands and the forest set between the Murti and the Jaldhaka rivers at the Himalaya's foot.

History & culture

The park was declared a national park in 1994 after its long life as a reserved forest — the one-horned rhino's refuge of the Dooars, with the park's story of the region's tea-era and the forest's protection; the park's safari routes and the watch towers, with the region's history of the Dhruba-charit of the area, give Gorumara its river-forest character in the state's north.
