Geography & terrain

Eravikulam National Park lies in the Idukki district of Kerala, 13 km from Munnar — the high plateau park of the Western Ghats, its rolling grasslands and the Anamudi peak (2,695 m, South India's highest) set above the tea country at 2,000 metres.

History & culture

The park was declared a national park in 1978 to protect the Nilgiri tahr — the park's emblem animal, with its story of the earlier Rajamalai tea estate's wild land; the park's great seasonal fame is the kurinji — the blue flower that blooms every 12 years across the plateau, with the tahr's protection and the Anamudi's summit (closed to visitors) framing the park's conservation history.
