Geography & terrain

The Dilwara temples lie about 2.5 km from the Mount Abu hill station in Rajasthan, near the state's south-western corner — a complex of five white-marble Jain temples set on the slopes of the Arbuda hills above the town.

History & culture

The temples were built from the 11th to the 13th century — the Vimal Vasahi's 1031 founding by the minister Vimal Shah and the later additions of the Tejpal and the other sanctuaries; their fame is the marble's extraordinary carving — the intricate ceilings and the hundreds of figures of the white stone, considered among India's finest examples of the craft, with the temples' Jain worship continuing to the present.
