Chandubi Lake is a natural lake at the foot of the Garo hills in Kamrup district, 60 km from Guwahati toward Meghalaya — a still green body of water ringed by hills and forest, fed by springs at the plain's edge where the hills shelve down to the Brahmaputra country.
History & culture
The lake formed in 1897 when the great Assam earthquake sank the area's river flats into a basin — a landscape born in one morning; since then the lake has grown into the region's boating and picnic retreat, its village life and the Garo-hill edge giving it a settled riverside-camp feel.
