Geography & terrain

Carambolim Lake spreads in the commer fields of Tiswadi taluka, 12 km east of Panaji — a shallow rain-fed lake ringed by rushes and rice fields, its water famous among Asian birders for the winter visitors.

History & culture

The lake was the old irrigation tank of the commer (rice) fields around it, held behind a bund in the colonial-era landscape; its modern fame is the winter birding — the migrating ducks, waders and the occasional painted stork making Carambolim the wetlands star of Goa's birding circuit.
