Built in the 1950s as the heart of Le Corbusier's new Chandigarh, the complex's Assembly, Secretariat, High Court and the Open Hand monument carried the modernist manifesto of the new India; inscribed a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2016 alongside the city's other Corbusian works, the complex remains the working seat of the Punjab and Haryana governments.
