BRT Wildlife Sanctuary — the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve — lies across the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, 90 km from Mysuru — 540 sq km of the forested range linking the Nilgiri-Brahmagiri and the Male Mahadeshwara wildlife country.
History & culture
The sanctuary's forests were long the elephant corridors of the south and the gathering ground of the border ranges; declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1974 and a tiger reserve in 2011, BRT is famous as the corridor-reserve — the connective tissue of southern India's tiger metapopulation, studied and protected for its role between the great parks.
