Bhismaknagar is an ancient brick-city site on the right bank of the Dibang river near Roing in the Lower Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh — a walled settlement of mosque-arches brick fortifications rising on the low river terrace under the Mishmi hills.

History & culture

Named in the regional legends for Bhishmaka, the king of legend (father of Rukmini, Krishna's consort), the site is the archaeological heart of the lost Chutiya kingdom — its brick palaces, tanks and ramparts datable to around the 13th–16th centuries. The mounds and its brick-laid roads remain one of the Himalaya's most important pre-modern urban sites, protected by the ASI.
