Bhavani Island sits in the middle of the Godavari river near Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh — a low green isle of mangroves and palms that splits the great river's braided channel, reached only by boat from the city's ghats.

History & culture

The island's story is the Godavari's own — a silt-built island of the delta country where the Pushkaram revellers' boats and the historic bathing ghats of Rajahmundry meet.
