Geography & terrain
Bhangarh stands in the Aravalli country of Alwar district, Rajasthan, 80 km from Jaipur — a walled ghost-town of ruined palaces, temples and bazaars lying along the base of the hills on the flank of the Sariska belt, reached by a short tarmac spur off the Delhi–Jaipur highway at Gola ka Baas.
History & culture
Founded in 1573 by Madho Singh I of the Amber line, the town grew as a fortified trading center with forts, gates, temples (Keshav Rai's grand temple), and a hundred-ha wall neck; abandoned toward the late 18th century and never reoccupied, it passed into legend — the Archaeological Survey of India formally prohibits entry after dark, and the site's 'haunted' reputation is a genuine marketing phenomenon that has made it India's most-visited ruined town.
