Geography & terrain

Betla National Park lies in the Latehar district of Jharkhand, 100 km from Ranchi — the core of the Palamau Tiger Reserve, its forested hills, river valleys and the old fort at its heart set in the state's great wild country.

History & culture

The reserve's history runs from the hunting grounds of the Chero and the later British era — the Betla fort of the old district stands among the forest; declared a tiger reserve in 1973, Palamau-Betla became one of India's first Project Tiger reserves, and its elephant rides, the fort and the waterfalls have kept the park on the region's wildlife roll.
