Geography & terrain

Barkana falls drops over the cliff-line between Udupi and Shivamogga districts in Karnataka — a single plunging curtain off the Agumbe ridge, one of the highest single-drop falls in India at about 850 feet, spilling into the Someshwara wildlife sanctuary's gorge below.

History & culture

The falls have lived in the Malnad imagination as a secret of the Agumbe fog — known to timber-era foresters and shepherds, guarded for generations within the sanctuary. Permissioned visits through the forest department gates began making them a destination in the 2010s.
