Geography & terrain

Banjar is the serenely placed headquarters hamlet of the Sainj valley in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh — 3,100 m ridgelines above and a braided Sainj river below, on the way to the Tirthan and Jibhi worlds. Apple orchards carpet its slopes.

History & culture

A traditional Kullu darbari settlement of the Sainj glens, Banjar became the gateway community as the Great Himalayan National Park grew around its headwaters — the park's Sainj entry posts staff the valley. Its older story is shawl-and-apple trade down the Kullu road.
