Bandipur National Park sits at the western end of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in Karnataka, where the Mysore–Ooty road cuts through tiger country at ~1,000 m. The park's 874 km² includes the Moyar river valley and the slopes of the Nilgiri foothills.
History & culture
The Maharaja of Mysore's private forest in 1931 became a sanctuary in 1941 and a national park in 1974 — among the first of Project Tiger's reserves. The park's anti-poaching history (Operation Champakathu, 1987) is a landmark in Indian conservation.

Yes, the Mysore–Ooty highway crosses the park — daylight only, and it's the most accessible tiger-country drive in India.
